Chemical Energy:

Define: Chemical energy is the amount of energy within the covalent bonds between atoms. Atoms bond using that energy. When the bonds between atoms are broken, energy is released. When the bonds are broken and atoms re-bond to form new molecules, they release heat, which is called an exothermic reaction. Using energy to break the bonds between atoms is endothermic.
