Position

Define:

Position is the location of an object with respect to the location of another object. An object could have a position of 4 meters north and 3 meters east relative to another object.

Units: (based or derived):

Meter

Unlike distance , position is ....

Position is a point in space an object occupies. Distance is the length of a path between two points. If an object's initial position is (0,0) and it's final position is (0,8), the distance the object traveled is 8 units. If an object travels north 4 meters, east 7 meters, then west 3 meters, the total distance traveled is 14 meters.

Unlike Displacement , position is........

Position is a point in space an object occupies. Displacement is the final distance between the initial and final positions.
If the initial position is 0, and the object moves 4 meters north and then 3 meters east, the displacement is be 5 meters.
(0,0), (0,4), and (3,4) are three of the object's positions. The distance between the initial position, (0,0) and the final position, (3,4) is 5 units.

Unlike speed , position is..............

The location of an object with respect to the location of another object. Speed is the change in position of an object over time. An object's position is constant if it has no speed. If the object has speed, it's position changes.
