Potential Energy:

Define: Potential energy is the stored energy of an object due to it's position. An object raised above the ground has potential energy due to it's position above the ground. When the object is released and put into motion, it's potential energy will become kinetic energy.

units: (base or derived) J Joules

Unlike kinetic energy, potential energy is......... Potential energy is the stored energy of an object due to it's position. Kinetic energy is the energy of an object due to it's motion. An arrow in a drawn bow has potential energy. When the arrow is fired, it has kinetic energy. The arrow's potential energy becomes it's kinetic energy.
