The charge of an up quark is +(2/3)e - e represents the elementary or electric charge of one proton.
The mass of an up quark is between 1.5 and 4 MeV. It has the lowest mass of all known quarks. The up quarks and the down quarks make up the protons and neutrons inside the nucleus of an atom, called nucleons. Quarks are held together within the nucleons by the gluon field.
